It's Valentine's Day and that means all around the country, couples are heading to the movies to take in a romantic-comedy.

A nation of men groans.

But this year, there's a film doing the rounds that is a rare beast indeed - a rom-com that both men and women are likely to enjoy.

'This Means War' is the story of two CIA operatives, Tuck (Tom Hardy) and FDR (Chris Pine). The two are the best of friends (and quite possibly the worst CIA operatives ever). But that friendship is put to the test when they discover they are both dating the same woman - the bright and bubbly Lauren (played by Reese Witherspoon).

What starts out as a gentleman's agreement to continue dating Lauren and see who she falls for, soon descends into an all-out battle, with the two men utilising every spy resource available to them in their quest for Lauren's affections.

Lauren, meanwhile, has no idea about the connection between her two beaus. Will she find out? And who will she choose to keep dating?

While 'This Means War' has some typical romantic-comedy cheesy moments, it balances this out with spy gadgets, boys being boys, and some genuinely funny moments. And let's not forget, all three of the lead actors are very easy on the eye.

You could do a lot worse for a Valentine's Day movie.

'This Means War' is in NZ cinemas from February 14.
