After three years of blood, sweat and tears, locally made modern-day Western, 'Netherwood' is now primed and ready for a nationwide release.
To date, the 90-minute independent feature film, born out of the wilds of Waipara North Canterbury, has flown mostly under the radar. But after sell-out screenings at the New Zealand International Film Festival in Christchurch last year, 'Netherwood' is now going nationwide.
Producers/actors Owen Black and Will Hall will be taking 'Netherwood' on the road from January 28. Screening in 21 centres over 29 days, the whistle-stop tour continues the can-do Kiwi attitude that got the film off the ground back in 2009.
Funded almost entirely by a handful of North Canterbury locals and created by a tight-knit group, the film is much more than just a labour of love.
"The way the local community in Waipara got behind us was just incredible," Hall says.
'Netherwood' was written by newcomer John Argall, with Black describing it as "an incredible debut".
In keeping with the independent spirit of 'Netherwood', Black and Hall are taking the film directly to the people themselves.
"We're keen to get our film out there and have a good time while we're at it," Black says.
